FAMILY BALANCING AND GENDER SELECTION
Family Balancing or Gender Selection is an option for couples who wish to achieve a representation or balanced representation of both genders in their family or who wish to prevent a sex-linked genetic disease occurring in their child.
At Troché Fertility Centers we use the proven technique of Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS) to accurately identify the gender of the embryos. PGS requires In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) to be performed for the creation of the embryos. When the embryos are 5-6 days old, a few cells are removed from each embryo (biopsy) and tested to determine each embryo’s gender (sex). The embryos are cryopreserved until the results are available-usually within a week. Then, with results in hand, a frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycle is planned where one or two embryos of the desired gender are transferred to the woman’s uterus.
PGS is virtually 100% effective in identifying the gender of embryos.
