Egg Freezing (Oocyte Cryopreservation) at Troché Fertility Centers

Program Summary

Egg freezing is for women who would like to preserve their fertilityEgg Freezing or mature oocyte cryopreservation is a technique for the preservation of reproductive potential in women of reproductive age.  The treatment cycle is similar to In Vitro Fertilization with the exception that eggs (oocytes) obtained are frozen and placed in storage for later use, and not fertilized with sperm immediately after retrieval.

Indications for Egg Freezing:

  1. Medical Indications:
    • Women receiving therapies for cancer or other medical conditions that are toxic or harmful to the ovaries.
    • Genetic Conditions:
      • BRCA mutations – for which removal of the ovaries is recommended
      • Genetic disorders that have been associated with premature ovarian failure, such as Turner syndrome, Fragile X permutation, and deletions (missing parts) of the X chromosome
    • Failure to obtain sperm for IVF on the day of egg retrieval
    • Oocyte cryopreservation for those who have an excess number of eggs and don’t want to create a large number of embryos
  2. Elective Indications:
    • Elective cryopreservation to defer childbearing (Deferred Reproduction)
    • Oocyte cryopreservation for those unable to or don’t desire to freeze embryo
